In 2020, the League of Legends improvement landscape was bleak. YouTube feeds were filled with toxic narratives, smurf content, and more unranked to challenger series than people knew what to do with.
It was during this era that ex-pro coaches and players Nathan Mott and Coach Curtis started the first League of Legends solo queue podcast – Broken by Concept.
In a time where content was elitist and often condescending towards lower ranked players, Broken by Concept resonated with listeners and quickly fostered a dedicated fanbase who would go on to be called the BBCers.
But who are Nathan Mott and Coach Curtis? And what motivated them to go down this path? It all started in high school where they played games casually together as friends.
When the League of Legends OCE server launched in 2013 they both quickly rose to the top of the Challenger ladder. After playing professionally for a few years, they both decided to move into coaching and team management.
Together, they started the Esports team Dire Wolves in 2014. Under their leadership, Dire Wolves became the most successful League of Legends team in OCE, winning the OPL four times in a row and representing the region internationally.
Despite Dire Wolves’ success, the Esports bubble in OCE was nearing bursting point, so in 2019 Nathan and Curtis decided to pivot and take their passion for teaching the game to a global audience…
They both launched YouTube channels each focusing on specific roles. Curtis specialized in mid lane, creating many champion guides and fundamentals videos that grew in popularity.
While working on his own channel, Nathan began experimenting with coaching models in Saltu (Jungle Academy), eventually creating the academy system WTL uses today. Curtis also began coaching solo queue players and the two spent the next 4 years working in their individual academies refining their crafts.
Fast forward to May 2024, 10,000+ hours of coaching and 200+ podcast episodes later… We Teach League was born.
By this point, Nathan and Curtis had grown Mid Lane Academy and Saltu (Jungle Academy) to a combined ¬1100 members. The mission now was simple: copy+paste the academy model and coaching process to the other three roles.
To achieve this, they enlisted the help of Charlie (who would go on to join the podcast), Coach Chippys, Coach Cupcake and many other challenger players and coaches from across the world.
The team began coaching regularly, making champion guides and building supportive communities with one goal in mind: member results.
Now, We Teach League supports 30+ League of Legends coaches and are constantly expanding the team to service our growing member-base.

After working directly with players for more than 20,000+ hours, Nathan and Curtis have developed a coaching philosophy built around climbing the ladder in a consistent and fun way.
First, they acknowledge that League of Legends is the hardest game in the world—a game that tests your discipline, emotional control, decision making, and ability to adapt more than any other competitive hobby.
For most players, League is the first hobby they’ve ever taken seriously. It’s the first time they’ve sat down and said: “I want to truly improve at something.”
That’s why at the centre of We Teach League’s philosophy there exists something nobody else talks about:
League mirrors the real world and teaches you how to learn in a fast moving environment.
To improve, you must build real skills—skills that extend far beyond the game:
Many of our members and podcast listeners have used League of Legends to build these skills and change their lives.
A structured method of playing a maximum of 3 games per session, then walking away from the PC.
Climbing in League of Legends is 50% improving and 50% avoiding self sabotage.
In order to navigate the chaos of the rift, it’s important to stay grounded and have a toolkit to support the climb.
Help League of Legends players build a healthy, sustainable approach to climbing, through no BS coaching and content that actually gets results.
